Asking Questions
Are you unsure about what kind of questions you should be asking
your plastic surgeon about your breast augmentation? Are you scared
that you might not be informed of some crucial information?
It is important to ask the right questions so that you get
all the right information about your breast augmentation
surgery.
Read through the following list of important questions, and pick
and choose the ones you would like answered:
How
many breast augmentations do you perform a year?
- How long have you had Board certification?
- What is the most common complication your patients experience?
- What incision site do you prefer, and why?
- What incision do you recommend for me?
- What type of anesthesia will I be receiving?
- When can I resume normal activities and/or exercising?
- Should I have a mammogram prior to my surgery?
- What medication do you recommend for bruising and swelling?
- Is it safe for me to have a breast augmentation if I have fibrocystic
breasts?
- When can I resume sexual activity?
- What is your policy on repairs (for example, lowering a crease)?
Do you charge a fee?
- What can I do to help my incision scars heal well?
- If a redo is necessary, can the same incision be used or will
you have to make a new one?
- Will my breasts feel/look natural?
- How will my breasts feel/look to my significant other?
- Will my implants lose their shape and/or sag after a long period
of time?
- Will I be able to breast-feed? Does the nipple incision decrease
my ability to breast-feed?
- How much time should I take off work?
- How will my breasts look if I decide to have children?
- Are my implants warranted? If so, for how much, how long?
- Will I lose sensitivity in my breasts/nipples? What are the
odds of this being permanent?
- Are all post-op visits free? If so, for how long?
- Will I be seeing you after my surgery, or will I be seeing
one of your assistants for my follow-up appointments?
- Do I need to purchase any bras prior to my surgery? Will I
need to wear a sports bra, underwire, or no bra after surgery?
- Can you provide me with references of patients who have had
the same procedure? (The doctor should have a list of references
available.)
- Can you provide me with before/after photographs of breast
augmentations that you have previously performed?
