Determining Size
Should I go for a C or a D?
Determining which breast size is right for you is important
in the breast augmentation process. Although your surgeon will help
you finalize your breast size decision, it is always a good idea
to know what range you would like your breast size to be in before
you see the doctor.
Explore
with the idea of different sizes, and reach some conclusion as to
which breast size would make you feel the happiest.
Implants come in all different sizes. The most common sizes selected
by women range between 200 and 600 cc (cubic centimeter). This is
equivalent to 7 – 20 ounces.
Here are some questions to consider:
- Would this breast size be suitable for my particular height
and weight?
- Would this breast size make me feel comfortable and less
self-conscious?
- Would this breast size look like natural on my particular
body type?
Just remember that there is no such thing as the perfect
breast size – it’s all about what makes you happy
and comfortable.
These are some techniques to try in finding the right breast size
for you:
- Find a few pictures of a breast size range that you like
to be in, and show it to your surgeon. He or she will let you know
if that would be a good size for your body type.
- Stuff your bra! Take a plastic bag and fill it with rice
to create your ideal implant size. Try placing the bag in your bra
so that you get a general idea of what your breasts will look like
at a particular size. Empty or refill the bag with rice as many
times until you find the perfect breast size for you. Once you find
a size your are comfortable with, you can measure the width around
your chest and inform your surgeon of the number.
The best way to determine your size is by placing breast implant
sizers (your plastic surgeon will hopefully have them) in your bra
and then put a sweater on.
Keep in mind that you shouldn’t get your mind set on one
particular breast size. Remember that the exact same sized implants
will look different on different women. So just have an idea
of the range you would like your breast size to fall into.
Let your surgeon know the range of size that you are interested
in, and he or she will show you what that size will look like by
placing breast implant sizers in your bra.
When your plastic surgeon suggests which size is suitable for you,
he or she will consider the following factors:
- chest shape
- breast shape
- breast base dimension
- breast volume
- tissue stretch characteristics
- sternal depth
- pregnancy history
- height
- weight
** Remember: Do not allow your surgeon to dictate your
size. You have the final input on this decision.
